Royal Blood will return in 2017, does anyone still care?

English rock band Royal Blood have announced their return on Twitter with a video showing them hard at work in the studio. With their self-titled debut the band became one of the most hyped and successful bands of 2014/15. They were a force of nature, whose unique guitar sound, four strings don't you know, made them the indie scenes next great white hope. Except they were really, really, dull.

I love rock and roll as much as any music fan but Royal blood always left me cold. Their album was fine but the committed a cardinal sin in my book, they didn't sound better live. In fact every time I watched a live performance from them they seemed flat; instead of monstrous riffs all I heard traditional Zeppelin lite. Royal Blood's return will excite a lot of people, but to me they are a flash in the pan. The second album will sell well, but this band hasn't got the staying power to become a true force in indiedom, right now no one does. If Royal Blood is what passes for rock and roll these days then I'd rather it was dead.
