If you’ve read any of my other posts, you’ll know that I love a good live album. I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again, the only thing that’s better than a live album is being at the concert itself. Now, where I wasn’t at the concert where the topic of this post was recorded, I did got to see a show on the same tour, so feel that I’m in a good place to comment.
I’m talking about Matt Corby, and his Live On the Resolution Tour - EP. Matt Corby is an Australian artist, who is probably one of the best vocalists I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing in concert. I’ve bought all of his EPs, from Into the Flame - EP through to Live on the Resolution Tour.
Similar in style to your John Mayer’s and James Bay’s, Matt Corby plays a mean blues guitar, combined with second to none vocals. This is demonstrated in the opening track Runaway, which builds throughout to show undeniable talent. The title track, Resolution (another of his EPs) is the real crowd pleaser of this short EP, and shows a level of maturity unseen in Matt’s previous material. However, the real show stopper is the closing number Trick of the Light. Not only does this show off Matt’s excellent guttering and understanding of creating undeniably rhythmic music. Combine this we an outstanding beat-boxing loop section, and Matt’s talent is clear.
I’ve been hotly anticipating Matt’s debut album since I first listened to the Into The Flame EP back in 2012. In the process of writing this article, I’ve seen that his debut album Telluric is scheduled for release on the 11th March 2016. Its about time, and another date for you musical calendars.
