New Kind Of Psychedelic

After several critically acclaimed EPs, Matt Corby made a decision to dedicate his time to soul, gospel, jazz and psychedelic and create a long-playing project. His debut titled Telluric burns like a Sun in a middle of an August day. Sound effects include echo, distortions and cacophony. When combined, these sound effects give an impression like you are listening to the multi-ethnic band with several vocalists who all have different skin colors and different drugs under their tongues.

Monday sounds like an African American soul, while Sooth Lady Wine sounds like Jethro Tull and Funkedelic met at the studio at the same time. Besides a thrilling vocal, Corby is also a multi-instrumentalist: bass, drums, guitars, piano. Everything related to Corby seems to be multi.

Corby loves Sly and the Family Stone which is recognizable on a track We Could Be Friends. As a matter of fact, Sly were also one of those geniuses who could write a song, sing it, play all the instruments and produce it. The only difference is that he is not using their slow-burning funk for nihilistic propensity. He is more about not being an animal and that is why he chooses to be alone.

Corby is only 26, so it is expected for him to be focused on relationship problems in his lyrics. It’s Good To Be Alone is a hypersensitive folk song that serves as a confession to all of his potential mates. Empires Attraction closes the album in an indolent manner. It’s like Corby wants it to last a little longer. You are not alone, buddy, I want it to last longer too.

It’s so good to know what will I be doing this summer when strong sun hits and I don’t want to hang out with anyone. This is a great chill out companion.
