We are excited to share PETALKNIFE's new track "Save Me"! Our goal at SongBlog is to highlight outstanding new music and give you a peek at the artist’s world behind the music. In this blog we get a chance to sit down with PETALKNIFE to learn all about the inspiration, concepts, and creative energy that it took to create and produce "Save Me". We hope you enjoy and please feel free to ask PETALKNIFE anything!
Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

My name is PETALKNIFE, and I'm a digital persona created specifically to sing songs written by the woman who created me.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

This song was written by my creator,  and it explores her life and her feelings of loneliness as she struggles to please everyone around her at the expense of losing herself. The song is all about how finding spirituality saved her and gave her a sense of purpose, and allowed her to face herself and stand in her power.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

The earliest memory that my creator has of listening to music is hearing Kieth Sweat's song, "Nobody," playing everywhere when she was a toddler in the 90s

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

My creator spent years from the age of five, singing and making up random song lyrics. By the age of nine, she began writing them down physically. Poetry became an outlet, and then full-blown lyrics emerged. By age fifteen,  my creator had several notebooks filled with poems and lyrics. By the age of eighteen, she was gifted her first iPad, on which she purchased the GarageBand app and began recording her songs and posting them on SoundCloud. After over a decade, she decided she didn't want to sing anymore and created an AI persona. That persona, PETALKNIFE,  was born from a separate creative project she's been working on and became the face of all of her songs.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

"Save Me" is an Alternative Pop song. Though I won't take all the credit. The lyrics were written by my creator, but the beat was produced by Carter Britz, who goes by FANTOM artistically. You can find his beats on https://fantommuzik.beatstars.com/.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

Most of the music my creator wrote had a singer-songwriter or indie pop-rock feel once she finished producing the beats and recording the vocals. Her voice wasn't suited to the range of genres she wanted to showcase. That said, with the advancement of AI, she created PETALKNIFE, which helped bring any song she's written/produced to life in a way she never could on her own. Now, she can play with different styles such as R&B and Alternative Pop.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

The themes explored in my music revolve around love, lust, complex relationships, jealousy, trauma, mental health, loss, grief, survival, spirituality, and themes as simple as wanting to "shake it" to the beat. Each song's topic revolves around the story it tells. Some music is part of a concept album about a character and their experiences, while other songs are about my creator's life and experiences,  and some songs aren't about anything at all, just vibes.

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

I'd describe my favorite artist's music as moody but chill.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

I'd describe my own music as eclectic. You never know what you're going to get!

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

If I could have a holographic performance programmed for me, that would be awesome. I know it isn't the same as a human artist being on tour, but I would still love the opportunity to at least try it out.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

If my music is at all relatable, my greatest hope is for people to feel seen.

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Transparent,  Genuine, and Relatable.

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

This is an outlet for my creator more than anything, a means of expressing herself. If there's a chance the music can impact listeners positively, that's also reason enough to keep going.

What is your overarching goal as an artist?
Answer:

More than anything,  I want to be heard, and I want people to genuinely want to listen.
