What is your overarching goal as an artist?
Answer:

To be able to continue enjoying making and sharing music.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

I never figured out how to make much money in music. I've been lucky enough to have jobs that have allowed me to stay active in music.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

“Blending influences of country twang, southern rock n' roll, and Americana folk, Russ Still & The Moonshiners creates a sound all their own”. (Sharp Turn Records). Skope Magazine describes the band as “Catchy lyrics, fresh and collaborated instrumental arrangements, finely cooked music. 8.9/10 Stars”. They move seamlessly along the Americana spectrum.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

I generally looking for a postive message,  hope, etc. But I don't limit myself to those ideas.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

Broadly Indie, but there's always a country kind of vibe.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

I've gotten to place where I write whatever song presents itself. In the past I was focused on a country/rock, outlaw country thing, but I'm not tied to that these days.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Spinning records on my parents stereo. I remember the first 45s I bought were Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash and Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

I carry a little bit of all the music I've heard and played over the past 50+ years. My most significant influences are the singers and bands that highlighted the west coast sounds of the 70s – James Taylor, Jackson Brown, The Eagles and more.

Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I'm 66. Retired. Happily married, 5 kids. 1 granddaughter.  4 dogs. In addition to writng and recording I play solo cover shows and work with some bands.

I’ve loved music all my life. Spinning records as a kid, pantomiming the Beatles for neighborhood “concerts”, church choir, piano lessons, guitar lessons. At 15 I played a school talent contest with a BAND. That changed the game!!

I’ve been playing in bands since 1974. The Governor’s mansion (for the kid’s birthday party), fancy country clubs, wedding receptions, concerts, festivals and some of the nasty juke joints in the Southeast. I love the juke joints the best!!

I’ve played rock and roll, country, dance tunes, blues, tribute and originals.

What I do now is write songs, record them, releasee them and sometimes I get to play them for anybody that will listen.

I regularly play solo shows. I play music folks like to hear and take almost any request.

My original music is a mishmash of all the songs I’ve ever heard, but leaning to Rock, Southern Rock and Americana. I call it Southern, Outlaw, Country Rock, but it’s hard to label. It will sound like whatever you think it is. My lyrics are about my life experiences, things that I see and things that I think are important. I try to write the truth as I see it.
