Oliver Gearing Perspective on No Surprise

I remember watching Top of the Pops as a kid in the UK in the 90s, and thinking that the live bands were cool. I remember wondering what it would feel like to be able to play music like that. I think that was probably the spark that made me start piano lessons, and start playing the drums. I think once I started, I was always going to end up writing and releasing music, because I love the feeling of grabbing onto a spark of an idea, and growing it into something full and complete.

I think one of the main themes I explore in my music is the uncertainty of love and relationships, and No Surprise plays into this massively. It's a universal feeling, we all need to start somewhere with someone, but how do you know they are 'the one'? How do you know that you can trust them, and that they trust you? Such a difficult thing to contend with, and it is something that finds it's way into most of my music, in some way or another!
