Stay Dead! Perspective on Subscription to a Plague
That's the toughest question for us to answer. All of the members have major interests and have worked in completely different genres like hardcore, punk, doom, desert rock, progressive metal, thrash metal, metalcore, rock, alternative, you name it. When we make music together, all of those influences seem to shine in one way or another, so it's hard for us to say that we fit into one specific genre. We sort of just fit into many.
We like to explore a lot of themes and ideas and bring awareness of certain issues to the forefront of the listener's mind. Things such as mental health and social issues can be heard in our lyrics but don't be surprised when you also hear songs about barbarians battling their way through the Forgotten Realms.
We've been very lucky to be able to write, work, and collaborate with quite a few well-known artists, such as Jeff Matz (High on Fire, Mutoid Man), Matt Pike (High on Fire, Sleep, Pike vs the Automaton), Bill Kelleher (Mastodon), Esben Willems (Monolord), and Eryka Fir (Coma Hole) just to name a few. We love to collaborate and add in the influences of other artists we love to listen to and work with, so that's a common theme you'll see throughout our work.
