With a name that alludes to Germany's southern region as well as a decongestant, it's not surprising that Von Südenfed make mischievous, boundary-blurring music. A project of
Mouse on Mars'
Andi Toma and
Jan St. Werner and
Fall vocalist
Mark E. Smith, Von Südenfed pit
Smith's inimitable lyrics and vocals against
Toma and
St. Werner's sounds, which borrow from electro, disco, dubstep, grime, and more. The trio originally worked together on an alternate version of
Mouse on Mars' "Wipe That Sound," which appeared on their 2004 album, Radical Connector, and enjoyed the collaboration so much that it spawned Von Südenfed. In 2007, the single "Fledermaus Can't Get Enough" heralded the release of the full-length Tromatic Reflexxions, which arrived that summer. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
