St. Louis, Missouri-based pop-R&B singer Mai Lee received an early musical education while attending a performing arts school during her elementary years. Additionally, her siblings sparked her love for an assortment of artists who emerged during the early '90s, including
Mariah Carey,
Mary J. Blige, and
Total, all of whom informed her sound. Lee also developed her singing talent through church choir and was part of a group that was unable to make headway. Studio time clocked with the St. Louis duo of
Bradd Young (
Kelly Rowland,
Akon) and Vega, as well as
Dave Russell, yielded independently released singles such as the ballad "Nobody 1993" and the club track "Low Key." ~ Andy Kellman
