About:
Originally from Kutaisi, Georgia, Katie Melua is one of Britain’s highest selling recording artists, having received over 56 platinum awards across a career that began at nineteen.
Katie released her multi-platinum debut album, ‘Call Off The Search’ in 2003. Subsequent albums have included its follow-up ‘Piece By Piece’, ‘The House’ in 2010 where she worked with producer William Orbit, and 2013’s Ketevan’.
2016’s ‘In Winter’ album was a significant departure for Katie, seeing her return to her native Georgia to record an album with the all-female Gori Women’s Choir. The album contains traditional folk songs, select covers, and newly written works, and is also the first album on which Katie took the role of lead producer. The music video to single A Perfect World, by directors Karni & Saul, won multiple accolades globally as well as the award for best animation at the UK Music Video Awards.
Katie released ‘Album No. 8’ in 2020, her eighth consecutive UK Top Ten album. Produced by Leo Abrahams, this is the first of Katie’s albums presenting lyrics entirely written by her, which critics noted had signalled a significant and welcomed move into a deeper and more meaningful exploration of the musical and lyrical artform. Katie is planning to release another body of original work in 2022, ahead of a new studio album in 2023.
