Gabriela Montero’s visionary interpretations, combined with her compositional and improvisational gifts, have won global acclaim.
The 2018 Heidelberger Frühling Music Prize winner, Gabriela Montero is an award-winning recording artist. Most recently, she joins the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada and Alexander Shelley, in Clara Schumann's Piano Concerto (2020, Analekta). Her 2019 Orchid Classics album features her own “Latin” Concerto and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, with the Orchestra of the Americas and Carlos Miguel Prieto. Her previous Orchid Classics album features Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and her own "Ex Patria", winning Montero her first Latin Grammy® for Best Classical Album. Others include Bach and Beyond, which topped the Billboard Classical Charts and won two Echo Awards. She received a Grammy® nomination for Baroque, and in 2010 released Solatino, inspired by Venezuela and Latin American composers.
Winner of the 4th International Beethoven Award, Gabriela was appointed Honorary Consul of Amnesty International, and recognised with Outstanding Work in the Field of Human Rights by the Human Rights Foundation. A speaker at the Women of the World Festival and the World Economic Forum, and a Rockefeller Award recipient, she played at Barack Obama’s 2008 Inauguration.
