Jerry Douglas has won 14 Grammy Awards and been an important part of roots music for decades. He’s been a member of legendary bands such as J.D. Crowe’s New South, Country Gentlemen, Strength In Numbers, and Alison Krauss & Union Station. He’s also formed his own award winning bluegrass band, The Earls of Leicester. Now, he’s onto his own bluegrass & jazz band - The Jerry Douglas Band, which features Christian Sedelmyer (fiddle), Daniel Kimbro (bass), Mike Seals (guitar), Doug Belote (drums), Vance Thompson (trumpet), and Jamel Mitchell (saxophone). The Jerry Douglas Band just released their first record, 'What If', and it was nominated for a Grammy. On 'What If', Douglas decisively merges jazz inclinations with the bluegrass, country, blues, swing, rock, and soul he’s spent his life absorbing and performing, forging a sound that flies beyond the boundaries of anything he or anyone else has done before. Though Douglas has recorded several of these songs previously, he turns them inside out here in bold new arrangements filled with unexpected elements. Like fellow bluegrass-rooted peers Bela Fleck and David Grisman, Douglas has always balanced respect for tradition with a desire to escape constricting expectations. But there were places even he was afraid to go — until now.
