Legendary German eccentric Felix Kubin has been creating music and art for nearly his entire life. His extensive resumé includes radio plays, sci-fi synth pop, chamber orchestra music, electroacoustic music, films and lecture performances. He began recording minimal wave and post-punk in the early 1980s, later forming electro-acoustic noise project Klangkrieg near the end of the decade. After composing soundtracks to animations by Mariola Brillowska (compiled on 1998's Filmmusik), he returned to making abstract electro-pop. Since 2005 he has expanded his field of activity to include lecture performances, experimental radio formats and works for orchestra. He also works with instruments specifically designed for him: the Light Scanner and the Mechatronikon. Two releases credited to Felix Kubin und das Mineralorchester have touched on his extensive work for theatrical productions and experimental broadcasts. His award-winning radio plays (Hörspiele) are better known in the German-speaking countries. Kubin has worked with chamber groups Ensemble Intégrales and Ensemble Resonanz, French-German kitsch-meisters Stereo Total, sample-artist Holger Hiller, writer Max Goldt, the Polish big band Mitch & Mitch and percussionist Hubert Zemler (in the duo CEL), among many others. He runs his own label Gagarin Records and curates the Hamburg-based festival papiripar for pop, art and rotation.
