A former member of Australian psych-rock band
Pond and the touring bassist for
Tame Impala, Cameron Avery's solo career went in a notably different musical direction. Inspired by the timeless romance of mid-20th century singers like
Frank Sinatra,
Dean Martin,
Sarah Vaughan, and
Etta James, Avery crafted witty, lushly arranged songs about falling in and out of love. Originally from Western Australia, Avery was the lead singer of the Growls and played drums for
Abbe May before becoming
Pond's drummer. He joined
Tame Impala in 2013, all the while working on his own music. When
Tame Impala took a break after the release of Currents, Avery recorded his debut album in Los Angeles. The results were Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams, which
Anti- released in March 2017. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
