Athens, GA-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Brent Cash began his musical career as a drummer (beating the skins for such diverse acts as
Television Buzz and the Mike Guthrie Band). Drumming may have been his thing at the time but, behind the scenes, Cash was cooking up some sunshine pop-inspired gems at home. For a while, the odd cassette was handed out to friends, but it wasn't until the mid-2000s that Cash began to pursue higher aspirations. Enlisting the recording talents of Andy Baker (
Japancakes,
Jucifer), Cash set out to produce an album that was as close as he could get to the sonic fingerprint of his '60s and '70s pop/rock idols -- and he did so, marvelously, on his official debut, How Will I Know If I'm Awake. Released in 2008 on Marina Records (home to
the Pearlfishers and
Shack, and reissuers of
the Free Design), How Will I Know If I'm Awake garnered a whole slew of positive reviews from the likes of Q, Uncut, and Rolling Stone (Germany). ~ J. Scott McClintock, Rovi
