For the first 18 years of her life, she lived in a rural village in the heart of the Kootenay Mountains in the interior of BC, Canada. Since the release of Anilah’s first EP “Warrior” in 2014, Dréa has been fascinated with the interplay between creativity, psyche, and nature. Ethereal soundscapes and layered chant create a complex tapestry for her unique vocal style, one that is equally ancestral and modern. Her music is often described as “transcendent” and “otherworldly." In 2015, Anilah collaborated with Einar Selvik (@Wardruna) to create a revisited version of her title track “Warrior,” which is an epic blend of contemporary songwriting and traditional Norwegian instrumentation. Since this release, she has continued to experiment with an approach to writing music that revolves around cyclical vocal layers, invocational chant, and the use of field recordings. Anilah is also a contributing vocalist on a new music app for psychedelic psychotherapy called Wavepaths, and is deepening her exploration into the therapeutic potentials of music and psychedelics.
