Born Alejandra Maeve Maxwell-Blanco in London to an Irish father and Spanish mother, singer/songwriter Alex Maxwell had a variety of influences, from
Fleetwood Mac to traditional flamenco. After relocating to Madrid, Maxwell started writing songs on her piano at the age of 12. She busked for some time and eventually moved back to London in 2014, where she recorded her first set of demos at Abbey Road Studios and signed with
Hollywood Records. In 2015, she began work on her debut album. Her first single, the dreamy "Drive," which was produced by the Flight (
Lana Del Rey,
Empire of the Sun,
Björk,
David Bowie), built some buzz for Maxwell, resulting in a hard-hitting electro remix by French producer
Monsieur Adi. She issued her debut EP, Signs, in late 2016. ~ Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi
