Afrakite is the solo project of Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Mathieu Le Guerrier. Raised in a musical family, he was exposed to some of his parents' records from the 70's and 80's, moulding of some of his influences at an early age. He picked up the piano and drumming when he was 12, and eventually followed in his older brothers footsteps, picking up the guitar and writing songs of his own. He was later introduced to the recording and production side of music, which triggered a desire to express his art by creating ambient sound landscapes, to accompany his light and easy-listening music. Afrakite's allure comes from his nostalgia-induced melodies and softness to the ear, flirting with folk and soulful influences, all to offer an uplifting and calming escape to his listeners.
