Jain Changes Up The Pop Genre

One may say check out this little darling of a talent however, I feel that Jain is so much more than that phrase. 'Come' comes off of Jain's debut album Zanaka. The translation of Zanaka which is Malagasy is "child". In most part the album title actually may be a reference to Jain's mother who was Malagasy-French. Even better is that Jain has taken her origins, travels and childhood then decided to write an album about all of that tied into one. The music video for 'Come' plays off a senseless childhood fantasy. Where nothing is quite what it seems and around any corner a new optical illusion presents itself. Jain replicates herself over multiple times. Opens a hole in the universe, climbs through and zips up the spot...all the while another version of herself is counting down from hide and seek. Another moment which happens towards the end of the music video, the scene where several Jain's are popping balloons which essential pop or explode or replicated selves. Even I must applaud the gradual intact of self reflective narrative combined with subtle humor. What Jain represents closely is revealed in the music she has released. A fun Pop epic imaginative tale full of dialogue, wanting and soulful narrative. 'Come' never crosses the barrier of passé or cliché in any way. Rightly so, Jain uses the experience of travel, collecting influences to develop a unique vocal accord, a rich formative beat with acoustic instruments and layered vocal loops. After several listening cycles 'Come' latches on and grows within it's content. Lyrics are becoming more memorable as well as significant. Which is what Pop is strictly about considering the origins the Pop genre comes from; meaning that Pop is about hooks, catchy lyrics and enjoyable beats. Jain finds a song structure in exact proportion to the classic ideal Pop melody. Uses that focus and has crafted an original mixture of influences.
