SONG REVIEW: Akdong Musician's 200%

Akdong Musician, also known as AKMU made their debut on April 6 with a refreshing song entitled 200%. The due was the winner of a popular Korean singing competition K-pop Star Season 2. They were given the privilege to choose between the Big 3 Entertainment agencies and in the end joined YG Entertainment.

The duo writes and composes their own songs. 200% which is their debut song isn't an exception. This time let's have a song review on the rookie's musical piece.

The song starts with the rap of Lee Chanhyuk. His voice is deep and low which sounds like almost a vocal fry. It's so long so as to introduce the first verse which is sang by Lee Soohyun.

Unlike her brother, her voice is high and soothing. You can really tell that she is in her teens by just listening to her voice. She uses a lot of head voice in the song than mixed voice. Anyway, it sounds good and it seems she is much more comfortable with it. You can also hear Chanhyuk's adlibs while she's singing her part.

The chorus is sang by both of them although there are moments when Soohyun goes solo and later joined by Chanhyuk. There are also harmonization from time to time. The accompaniment is simple yet fun. I think it's fine for a rookie.

There are some digital effects in the song which sound cute. Considering that they are still teenagers and the song talks about a teen's love, those effects really fit the song. I can say that it's a cute song intended for the young ones. Chanhyuk seems to take most of the parts in the song with his rap. Surprisingly, the song gets a bit boring in the middle of the song.

However, the song recovered from it when the bridge comes in and Soohyun sings again. Some lyrics are in English and it sounds just fine. Once again, she sings with her head voice a lot.

I think AKMU should've changed some parts in the song to make it more interesting and different. It's quite predictable and common. Nonetheless, the song is really fun and cute. A perfect song when you think of your crush.
