The purest return of Stevie Nicks

For the movie “The Book of Henry” Stevie Nicks has recorded the strikingly simple and beautiful ballad, “Your Hands I Will Never Let It Go”. The song contradicts anything that is popular in mainstream music, but that’s the great thing about movie songs. It’s about creating the perfect moment in a story; the perfect image.

I don’t know to which moment this song will be used in the movie. My introduction to it was while watching the lyric video the production company had released. So, this was supposed to probably give me a better impression of the movie, but I’m not quite sure what to make if it then. A super sweet family movie or something more dramatic?

Stevie’s slow song stays at a steady pace throughout the whole song. There’s something about her performance on this song that is incredibly fragile. I’ve had some trouble getting used to her voice at beginning of the song. It sounds a little bit strained or forced. That sound comes back every once in a while during the song. It reminds me a little bit of Cyndi Lauper, especially in her current country phase.

“Your Hands I Will Never Let It Go” sounds a bit folklore. It’s got some great lyrics that say enough to paint a picture, but not enough to have that picture be very clear. This song could be used in any kind of setting in a movie and it doesn’t give anything away.

The only thing it does give away is the kickoff of a return for Stevie. The song is her first solo single in three years and she’s set to go on her own tour first before rejoining the Fleetwood Mac tour in 2018. And don’t forget that it recently announced she would be working with Lana Del Rey too. So glad to see her so active. She’s definitely not letting anything go.
