Filmatic’s Eye for an Eye: Henrietta. Henrietta is a prequel to Filmatic’s flagship VR story, Eye for an Eye (which debuted Halloween 2016). The music in Henrietta (provided by Ruy Folguera) does a solid job of crafting an engrossing universe and provides the short with plenty of memorable moments, so I decided to take a look at its musical highlights.
Folguera’s score is disciplined and restrained, and there are large swaths of the short that are strictly dialogue and sound effects. This makes the moments with music all more effective, their contrast stark against the blank canvas of music-free sequences. Folguera uses a traditional orchestral feel for much of the film, soft strings and gentle woodwinds softening the already silky hues and lighting present in director Elia Petridis’s style as a filmmaker. Tension slowly builds towards an interesting dance sequence where Folguera’s music steps to the forefront -- the song, with vocals by Jesca Hoop is wonderful. I don’t want to reveal much more, but it’s safe to say that one of the highlights of Henrietta is it’s music -- check it out and hear for yourself.
