After watching Straight Outta Compton, it’s great to look forward to watching the real Ice Cube (whose son did an awesome portrayal) on the silver screen again in his upcoming movie Barbershop: The Next Cut. When growing up, my friends and I could bump his music all day where ever we went. Those were the days and his music still gets play time on many radio stations. Nowadays, you can find Ice Cube in movies and with his new movie coming up, it was no surprise to find him placing a track to it. Let me put this straight, it’s Ice Cube & Common’s new song and it’s called “Real People”.
I remember growing up and hearing Ice Cube rap on a track that was just blastin’ through our car audio system. Back then, we had the bass, the low ride, and the style to match. Music, like always, hit the feel and mood where ever you went. Those days, Ice Cube spoke whatever he wanted to say and the message came with strength and aggressiveness. We would cruise, feeling all tough and hyped, nodding at people we may know as we drove by then we would finally reach our spot… the speaker phone would say, “Hi! Welcome to… Order when you’re ready.” Or something like that.
Yeah, maybe we didn’t cruise in a ’64 Impala. More like the old car that our parents passed down to us to drive around in. But it sure did have the room to bring friends and enough space to place the bass speakers in the trunk! Nonetheless, we always had a great time and Ice Cube provided us with awesome music during our evening get-togethers and ventures.
Ice Cube & Common’s new song “Real People”, is about how they notice the positive changes in today’s community. It points out how violence has gone downhill and togetherness is now on the rise. In addition to this, Ice Cube and Common display their resolve over their past feud. The both of them working on this track and starring in the movie together further displays just what their song and message is about.
