A television show that I have been waiting for and that I think deserves a spot here on Kurrent, Vinyl premiers February 14, 2016 on HBO. The era is around the 1970s, the scene is New York and the stage is the music industry and its business.  We are placed during a time that various genres like punk, disco, and hip hop are born.  Audiences are set for 10 episodes in its initial season.

The American period drama television series is created by Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Rich Cohen and Terence Winter. The story revolves around a record label president, Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale), who is trying to build his company and business.

I am personally excited how the setting is presented in this television show. Although, I have not watched it yet, the trailer is pretty interesting and an attention catcher on its own.  Besides, I’m not here to write about the show but more on the music that will be coming out of it.  I will say though, the list of music is already having me wanting to follow the show.  On Atlantic Records Youtube Channel, we get a few presentations of songs that will be aired on the television show.

The songs being produced for the show brings back the old days of stage excitement, crowd screaming and yelling, and the glitz and glam of the music industry.  Since the tracks are out on the Atlantic Records Youtube Channel, you guessed it… there is an Original Series Soundtrack album---Vinyl: Music From the HBO Original Series, Vol. 1.  Atlantic Records and Warner Bros. released the album that consists of songs from that period of time.  During the television show’s season, music will continue to be released.

After the release of the Volume 1 album, music that is featured and inspired on the Sunday episode will be released.   The music release will be every week on every Friday prior to the Sunday episode.  Furthermore, during the season finale, on the Friday prior, a second soundtrack will be released---Vinyl: Music From the HBO Original Series, Vol. 2.

I can barely wait as I write this, and it’s just going to be later today!  Well, till then, visit the Atlantic Records Youtube Channel and listen to some great tracks providing that Old School style.  Here’s the trailer:
