What a debut Sam Smith has had. Once he had featured on “La La La” by Naughty Boy, life was a rollercoaster for him. He’s had the Adele factor. He’s one of those distinct voices that just made an impression and no one can really come close. Still, you can never be sure that your place will be held and there was a risk to Sam taking a hiatus of over a year, at this stage of his career.

He recently broke his silence on Twitter and he very quickly started announcing new music. Yeah!

After teasing a new single last week, it was finally time on Friday to hear his first music and some fans have even been lucky to hear more when he performed new material during a gig, recently.

His first single is called "Too Good at Goodbyes". While teasing the song, Sam shared bits and pieces of its lyrics and became clear that he literally picked up where he left of. Brokenhearted.

The music doesn’t give anything away of what Sam may have been doing during his break, but who knows what’s yet to come. Maybe he does have an Ed Sheeran “Castle on the Hill” kind of song on his new album. Variety even hinted that the new material might win him a few more Grammy’s. Wow! One thing is for sure. He gave romance another try and failed at it, which he describes in “Too Good at Goodbyes”.

The song brought him together with producer Stargate, who’s produced the best of the best artists already. It also reunited him with Jimmy Napes, with whom he wrote his biggest hits.

I love “Too Good at Goodbyes” for it being a typical Sam Smith song, and I am not alone. Sam’s song may not have been able to give Taylor Swift a run for her money, but it’s high up with her in some of the global charts. He’s definitely back.

The year of the restart

Say, do you remember that year that Beyonce had taken off? I don't. I remember hearing about her planning it, but then it was followed…
