By now, I’m sure most of us has heard Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. It seems that many people love the song and don’t get me wrong, it is a great song. I also know that a lot of the buzz around it is his dancing in the music video. Well, we have to hand it to him. He seems to be just enjoying himself and having fun with a good old dance and feel of the music. Nothing wrong with that… definitely nothing wrong with that. Hey, he produced the song so he can do whatever he wants in his own music video. It’s okay, Drake. Do your dance thing and enjoy!
What I want to share with everybody about this song is a recent cover done of it. The cover was done by Anthony Hamilton and the Hamiltones. I have to say, I really did like this cover. Not only was it done in a different genre style but it also brought a different feel to the song. It had more of a fun and enjoyable jam to it. The guys were definitely just having fun with it and obviously just going along with it. Whatever they did, it was awesome. Furthermore, they brought it back to that old school soul style.
I couldn’t help but watch both Drake’s and Anthony Hamilton’s versions, back and forth. As modern and distinctive in style Drake’s original was, I found myself smiling in delight to hear Anthony Hamilton and his backup group, the Hamiltones, blend their vocal styles all together. The acapella sound was just amazing. There wasn’t any dancing but there was a lot of beat-and-sound-making to match the music. Thanks Drake for providing the song. This cover wouldn’t have happened without you. Both Drake and Anthony Hamilton are definitely talented in their own style and sound.
