Eric Selby, a single father of 4 daughters, is a producer, multi-instrumentalist and an artist. Having initially spent years behind a mixing board and drumkit, Selby decided to make his debut as an artist, releasing his first solo in 2020. From thereon out, he has accomplished the following: his first single (Do, Baby) ranked Top 50 in the “Best of 2020” songs on the National Top Contemporary Folk Album Chart; Selby was a finalist for the WAMMIE Awards in the Best Folk Album, Best Pop Album and Best Rock Album categories; he has been named the Drum Thumper “Jimi” Award winner for Blue411; was #1 (multiple times) on Blue411’s charts; was featured in Modern Drummer; and has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. Additionally, Selby has recorded and performed with artists such as Mike Finnigan, James East, Lenny Castro, Daryl Johnson, Bill Payne and Warner Williams to name a few individuals. Eric Selby has also performed at numerous festivals and venues across the country such as the San Diego Blues Festival (CA), the House of Blues (IL), the New York State Blues Festival (NY), and NPR’s Mountain Stage (WV) to list a few.The first part of Eric Selby’s new single, Arise, captivates the attention of fans by using the sound of a metronome. The song begins and ends with the sound of ticking, and builds anticipation. The upbeat, folksy sound of the guitar, tambourine, piano and drums, draws the listener in as the song paints the image of an individual waiting as time passes them by. Selby sings, “Out of touch and out of fear/It’s something I advise/Dark mist is coming near/Arise.” With Selby’s musical influence stemming from 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music, his musical style and vibe is similar to that of, Steve Miller, Paul McCartney and Tom Petty. Having been influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Radiohead, Selby has crafted a sound that conveys a message that resonates throughout the song. The inspiration and title for Eric Selby’s new album, Where You Born At?, stemmed from a meeting he had a few years ago. Prior to this meeting, Selby was extremely nervous and did not feel he was worthy of this individual’s time; however, once she asked, “Where you born at?”, Selby’s “anxiety melted”. From this experience, he was reminded, “we’re all just humans trying to navigate this mortal coil”. When discussing his single, Arise, Selby says he intentionally made the song ambiguous, so the listener can determine the perspective as it relates to them. Using the words “tick tock”, “surprise” and “arise” repeatedly throughout the song, Selby is reminding his audience, “even though the days seem long, time continues to move quickly, so be completely aware of what you are doing with this time we all are given because, before long, it’s…‘high time for you to Arise.’”With the upcoming release of Eric Selby’s first album, Where You Born At?, on June 11th, music fans cannot wait to hear what new and unique perspective he will deliver next. From endorsing 8 brands to having a cat with an identity crisis (his cat thinks it’s a dog), it quickly becomes evident why we love Selby: he is a talented, personable, hardworking artist who we cannot wait to see prosper on his new musical venture. Be on the lookout for Selby’s new album and continue to stream his new single Arise.
