"Fake News" is an indie rock song constructed by Charleston-based band Honeypot - which denounces the hypocrisy of Trump's attacks against journalism. It was written in 2018, but now that 2020 and the presidential reign are ending, it seems the perfect send-off to both.
This music video starts off with the famous quote from Martin Niemoller, “First They Came,” which discusses the importance of speaking out against injustices, even if they seemingly don’t affect you. This music video then launches into the social commentary of Trump’s reign, with moments of different and various news clips, spanning from the Presidential debates from 2016, to current Senatorial debates.
The video also compares Trump to Adolf Hitler, with their astounding and funny chorus “Fake News. Fakes News, Isn’t that what the Germans, said about the Jews?”
Overall, this Trump diss track is unmatched, with a telling video to go along side of it. This tongue in cheek delivery brings comedic relief to the dark times that we embarked ever since Trump got into office.
We definitely look forward to hearing more social-commentary-comedic style of songs from Honeypot this year!
