While Paul McCartney was reveling in all his top 5 hits in 1971, Tommy James, legendary star of Tommy James and the Shondells, also had a Top 5 hit with “Draggin’ The Line”. Now in 2020 Tommy drops a stellar remake of “Draggin The Line - 2020 Version”, featuring Emmy Award-winning rapper T.O.N.E-z and celebrated guitarist Steven van Zandt.
The hip-hop-infused “Draggin’ The Line -2020 Version” is off James’ first new album in ten years, Alive, written and produced by Tommy. Released in 2019, Alive charted #10 on Billboard’s Independent Chart. The original “Draggin The Line” was a top 5 single in 1971.
“I'd been thinking about a remake of "Draggin' The Line" for a long time and felt that a street version might be perfect.” says Tommy. “I got ahold of T.O.N.E-z, who is a great friend and an amazing talent, to lay down a rap. Then I called in another fantastic friend, Stevie Van Zandt, to record the guitar solo.” Steven van Zandt is the beloved guitarist of Bruce Springsteen and The E-Street Band and fronts his own Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul.
