My knowledge of the Greek music scene is not great. I have often come across hardcore music, so my biased opinion is that Greek people love that kind of music. Puta Volcano is another band that proves this. The band comes from the capital Athens, and Harmony of Spheres is their third album, preceded by 2011 Represent Victory Below Eyeand 2015 The Sun.As I have already hinted, they are a hardcore crew who grew up listening to grunge and hard rock, so it comes as no surprise that their main influences include Queens Of The Stone Age, Mars Volta, Alice In Chains, Baroness and Carpenter Brut. That is precisely how they sound - as the mixture of the mentioned bands.
With the opening Dune and the dirty riff that is rapidly supplemented with drum and other instruments, we get the clear picture of what the band wants to give us. It is an uncompromising play on the trace of the 90s and the onset of the 00s. The biggest flaw might be the production that polished the powerful sound to the point of debilitating its raw quality, yet in this manner songs have commercial potential which would not be possible If they weren't polished. Following Bird shows the richness of the band's abilities and the vocal skills of the lead singer. Jovian Winds is something QOTSA would love to have in their repertoire, and the rest of the record continues in the same direction.
Overall, even though the album has only 8 songs, it is coherent and ready to sweep you off your feet. This is definitely music that is not hard to love.
