What Does Japanese Rock Music Sound Like?

It’s not a secret that I’m a huge fan of rock music. You can check out my profile and find that mostly my articles have something to do with rock music. Although, something new about me is liking music from other parts of the world. I’m a fan of Kpop and I’ve been a long-time fan of Japanese culture. After, a friend of mine introduced One OK Rock to me, I found the things I love in a cluster of a Japanese rock band.

The band has been around since 2005 but they debuted in 2007. It’s a bit saddening that I just knew about them now, 10 years after their debut. This is the reason I’m writing this article, so that no one will regret not knowing about them earlier.

The thing that makes them really different in my perspective is because they incorporate English to their songs. It isn’t completely Japanese or gibberish to us. I’ve been listening to their music for months but I still feel a certain sense of vulnerability when the vocals switch from English to Japanese.

The arrangement of the songs is really powerful and well… loud. It’s something to make you head bang at any time of the day. It’s really astounding to see bands like One OK Rock that have only 4 members. This means the vocalist is usually someone who plays an instrument, but One OK Rock’s Takahiro Moriuchi doesn’t. Even with the lack of one instrument, their sound is still so powerful and complete.

Here is one of my favorites from them that shows their full-on rock side:

And this one is my favorite that shows their acoustic and soulful side:

So, there you have it. Another article promoting music from a different part of the world. Tell me what you think about this dynamic rock band in the comments.
