Gilid by Moonstar88 is still probably one of my favorite Filipino songs ever. It talks about loving from a distance. The word “gilid” means side, corner, or anything in relation to those words. The song tells us about a person who is loving someone from the sidelines. Not allowing the other person or anyone to know about her/his feelings.
My favorite thing about this song is how upbeat and jumpy it is. I love the way people make rock love songs and this is my favorite one. The incorporation of rock into this pop-like song is impressive. This song contains one of the most complex lead guitar arrangements I know. Maysh Baay, the vocalist of Moonstar88, has quite a lot of breath for this song. I tried singing it myself and trust me it isn’t an easy task. It is my dream to play this song along with my band, but that is still yet but a dream.
Take Maysh Baay’s amazing vocal range, the song's dynamic lead guitar, and upbeat tune. Put it all together and it makes the hit Gilid.
You can watch the original music video down below:
The video shows us the story of a girl developing feelings for a guy but then finds out he has a girlfriend and decides to know her place. She doesn’t meet up with him and remains as his secret admirer.
But my favorite version of this song is the live recording of it in the Tower of Doom:
