In 1970, the Beach Boys were still trying to figure out what the Beach Boys were supposed to sound like. Brian Wilson had previously been most of their creative energy, and he spent the second half of the 1960’s in a mental decline, unfortunately. Following a handful of questionable albums, 1970’s Sunflower proved that the group was back in the saddle. It features an overall dreamy and emotional tone, and minimal contributions from Brian. Bruce Johnson, previously an underdog of the group, stepped up to the plate and produced most of the group’s quality material for Sunflower. The album tanked at the time, being their biggest commercial failure to date, yet is considered to be one of their best works present-day.
Add Some Music To Your Day
Originally the title track, this is an upbeat tune with beautiful vocal melodies. While the music itself is quite solid, I also really dig the subject matter. The Beach Boys prescribe a daily dose of music for your health – much like a medical doctor would prescribe some useless pill. They identify a number of different settings that involve music, such as church or the dentist’s office, with the overall theme being that music is everywhere.
