Puffy Areolas - In The Army 1981

Puffy Areolas are an American noise-rock/garage rock/garage punk band, who have released a few pretty good albums through the years. Their best album to date though has undoubtedly and irrevocably been ''In The Army 1981'' - an album they released back in 2010. The album packs some fine noisy lo-fi sounding garage punk/noise rock from start to finish, and thus comes across as one of the best noise-rock/garage punk albums of the last few decades.

The album starts off with a track titled ''Noble Rot'', which pretty much oozes out noisy feedback laden garage punk/noise-rock, and is a damn awesome fast paced psyched out noise rock track. ''Deathcraze'' on the other hand packs some heavy garage punk material that tends to be quite melodic in parts as well. I can see why the band named this one ''Deathcraze'', as you can surely imagine this track to the soundtrack of a fighter in battle being shot down after a shortlived dogfight. What best song to listen to while one is to crash and die horribly in a fighter jet right? The third track ''1981'' again moves in punkish and psyched out garage rock/noise-rock paths, and does this marvellously, while ''Get Me Out Of Houston'' tries to get out of Houston apparently, and actually does this about half way into the song. Apparently getting out of Houston induces a fair bit of ''Punking In Piss'' though for the ones not used to free-jazz infused noise-rock in zero gravity. The following ''Heart Attack'' can make you think you are listening to some feedback laden garage rock with lazer sounds intermittedly barging into this strange state. The penultimate track on the album is titled ''Escape From Guyana'', but why to escape it. Or is that French Guiana and thus one would be escaping being stuck into the European Space Agency's remake of that previous flight out of Houston? Either way the track packs some heavy feedback laden noise-rock with a pretty clear psych rock influence. An awesome track. The album is concluded by the noise punkish ''Fuck You Pretzel''.

All in all ''In The Army 1981'' pretty much sums up what noise punk infused garage rock/noise rock should sounds like, as it packs solid track from start to finish. The great thing about this album is also that it lacks any kind of filler tracks, and all the material is pretty good. A must for anyone into feedback laden raw noise-rock.
