Ghost Box Orchestra - High Plaine

Ghost Box Orchestra is a psychedelic rock/neo-psych band from Boston, and their latest album ''High Plaine'' came out in the middle of last year. As has been the case with their earlier albums, then ''High Plaine'' also packs an enjoyable feedback and echo laden mixture of psychedelic rock and neo-psych. The album also tends to be somewhat mellower than their earlier psychedelic noise rock infused ''Sound Of (Eternal Now) EP'' from 2015.

The album starts off with a rather feedback and echo laden psych rock piece titled ''Flutter''. The track tends to be catchy and memorable in its krautish psyched-out semi-improvisational ways and is probably one of the best tracks on the entire album. A thorough introduction for sure. One that is followed by the title track ''High Plaine'' that packs some pretty distinct neo-psych vocals and an instrumental section that moves in a similar realm as well. A good heavy track once again that also packs a pretty psyched-out guitar bit too. ''Socrates Burns'' packs a pretty fine low-end section and some more noisy choing and reverbing feedback laden psych guitars. The first three tracks also tend to be the best ones on the entire album for that matter, as the songs that follow move more towards conventional neo-psych, and don't really follow up the first 3 tracks that well. While saying this then tracks like ''Dead and Gone'', as well as ''Causality Devotional'' still pack some fine noisy neo-psych, while the other tracks work well-enough too.

All in all ''High Plaine'' tends to offer about 3-4 really good tracks and some other tracks that dwell in pretty conventional neo-psych. and which are not that memorable due to this. In general though the album probably stands out as one of the more interesting neo-psych albums from 2016, as the first three tracks really kick ass for me. If the album was a 3-4 track EP then it would surely be one of the best EPs of 2016 among neo-psychedelia. So be sure to check this one out. Also their EP from 2015 is even better than this album, so that one is worth checking out as well.
