When Guitars Are Toys

Fun garage rock band from the punk record label who passed by my radar last year is now finally on my radar. toyGuiar is relatively new group, with only one LP in its discography and it is the last year’s album In The Mess. The main singer is eclectic musician, respected in punk circles, Jack Dalrymple (Swinging Utters, One Many Army, Dead To Me), a guy who knows his craft. Besides him stand guitarist Miles Pack, drummer Rosie Gonce and bass-guitarist Paul Oxborrow.

What does Move Like A Ghost bring to the table? The sound is a hairy combination of garage, melody and pop-rock with the finest dose of innovative notes and soft vocal that is often lost and neglected in the pleasant noise and distortion. Overall, they lean towards summer vibes, and I even heard The Bambi Molesters in some of the songs. It’s as If you turn oranges, milk and sea salt into a sound. That is pretty good!

When it comes to lyrics, I would say that this is a typical optimistic melancholy that you can put in your player when you really don’t know what you want to listen, but you need something to lift you up. I will be happy when I get the physical copy and lyrics book, but I am not rushing to do so. I already know that I like their work, without having every single word in front of me.

toyGuitar is ambiguous, relaxed and playful mess that makes your heart warm. It is a rock splash that makes your feet dance and your palms sweat. Instruments are their toys and they certainly know how to play.

If I would to recommend you to listen to only one song from toyGuitar, it would be Stoned Under New Moon, because it contains the essentials of the band.
