How many young alternative rock bands do you now? Yes I know, there are tons of great artists and musicians, and I am glad that nowadays we can easily discover the most of them! In this Blog, I would like to share with you my favorite Album (and Band) discovery for this year, and that is the Austrian rock band called"Mother's Cake" with the album "Off The Beaten Track."
Mother's Cake is a spectacular group of three young genius minds with incredible visions and creative minds with four albums behind (they recently released a new album called "No Rhyme No Reason" but I haven't listened yet). Their music is a blend of funk, rock, psychedelic hard rock and progressive elements and they are making it perfect! I am sure that Rock lovers especially the Austrian ones are proud of them.
What I love about "Off The Beaten Track" is that is a live album, and not everybody has the courage to do that. The album last for 50 minutes including six tracks in total with featuring artists as Heidi Erler on the Vocals, Charly Mair -Percussions and Andreas Tentschert on the keyboards. "Off the Beaten Track" is a unique kind of experience full of well balanced dynamic control, emotions, and feelings with some polyrhythmic patterns and a beautiful story sang by the main vocal singer and guitarist Yves Krismer.
The album starts with "Creation's Finest" - a song that starts quite smooth and gently but till the very end it explodes like an atom bomb, several times. I love the funky groove and all of the rhythmic patterns as well those transition from aggressive & dominant to calm & easy-going parts of the song.
"Realitricked me" is a masterpiece in which we truly can see the serious talent they have got. The Song is a blend of funk and rock elements, and right in the middle of it there comes the techno dance groove with some fantastic synths! "Realtricked me" got me chills every time I hear it, this song left me speechless.
"Invisible" sang by Heidi Erler is a real refreshment of the album, and I think it fits very well. I liked her strong and (at the same time) gentle voice, and she literally blew up the improvisations leading the song perfectly to its culmination, and also the end with the piano is so epic but also magical at the same moment.
As you see, I haven't write anything about the main vocal of Yves Krismer, but wait I have a good reason for that! This guy deserves a new paragraph just for his extraordinaring voice. There is no question about his majestic tehnique but it is not just that. Yves Krismer has one of the most specific voice I have ever heard, and all that combined with his emotions and "pain" in his voice. He knows how to deliver the lyrics of the song so we can all understand it and feel compassionate about it. Hat's off to this gentleman.
Overall I was fully impressed (and still am) with this album, and I can't wait to check the new one.Just an information, the whole album "Off the Beaten Track" is uploaded on Youtube on their channel.
