Oren Ambarchi is an Australian musician and multi-instrumentalist, who has released a vast number of albums through the years. His albums have had quite a wide spectrum, but they mostly tend to dwell between ambience/drone/psychedelic rock/experimental rock/noise/avant-garde and so forth. His latest album ''Hubris'' came out  just a short while ago in October, and was released by the Austrian label Editions Mego. The album seems to mix electronic music with minimalist psychedelic rock, as well as krautrock influences, and all of this tends to move in the realm of avant-garde.

The album is divided into three parts, out of which the first and the second are rather lengthy over 15 minute tracks. The first of these tracks is titled ''Hubris Part 1'', and it packs some krautrockish minimalist electronics that gradually and slowly evolve to add some layers of sound every now and then to the forward propelling krauty electronics motion. All in all the track is minimalist to the core throughout its 21 minutes, but that is what actually makes it addictive and it is quite easy to listen to it for the entire of its duration. ''Hubris Part 2'' on the other hand is a short filler track where Ambarchi plays some rather mellow mathrock stuff on guitar. ''Hubris part 3'' however follows on from where the lengthy ''Hubris Part 1'' left off, and thus boasts some thorough krauty minimalism. The track again evolves slowly from minimalist electronics to some guitar improv bits, as well as interlapping electronic sounds. Thus the track moves into a kind of half-electronic psychedelic noise rock piece. A piece that tends to be rather awesome as it mixes some minimalist krauty electronics with some fascinating guitar slash electronics improvisation. Whatever the case may be this track is definitely the highlight of the album with its maddened avant-garde improvisation.

So what can be said about ''Hubris'' in general? The album features 2 lengthy tacks and a short mathrockish guitar interlude, so it is not the longest album one can imagine. Nonetheless Oren Ambarchi boasts some fine krautrockish avant-garde electronics mixed with some fascinating guitar improvisation, so the album is definitely worth checking out, and goes down as one of the best Ambarchi releases of recent years for me.
