Josefin Öhrn & The Liberation - Mirage

Josefin Öhrn & The Liberation is a Swedish psychedelic rock/space rock/neo-psych group, who recently released their new album ''Mirage''. The band is known for their psych rock/neo-psych soundscapes along with distinct vocals of Josefin Öhrn. ''Mirage'' is no exception to their previous album by no means, as it packs some krautrockish psych or neo-psych from start to finish.

The first track on the album is titled ''The State (I'm In)'', and it essentially packs a pretty high-tempo krautrock rhythm section throughout. This rhythm section is complimented by some fine neo-psych style female vocals, as well as some fine distortion laden guitar parts, making for a thoroughly enjoyable listen. The song also reminds Wooden Shijps to a certain degree. ''Sister Green Eyes'' again has a bit of a Wooden Shijps'esque feel to it, while the track is a bit slower than the previous one. Being from Sweden the track also has a kind of ascending Goat feel to it, as well as boasting some pretty clear raga rock features as well. Whatever the case may be, the track is a catchy one. The third track ''In Madrid'' works more like an interlude for me with its repetitive soundscape and occasional vocal bits, while ''Rainbow Lollipop'' follows on from the same pattern and into some more clear-cut repetitive neo-psych development. A development which is pretty memorable and enjoyable for that matter. The vocals on this track are also in French, which is different from the previous tracks. ''Endless Ocean'' works more like a dream-pop or shoegaze track to me, with the following track ''Following You'' probably being the best track on this album with its noisy neo-psych soundscapes. Having said this, then the seventh track ''Rushing Through My Mind'' works in an exactly similar manner, with the last track ''Imagine You'' being a pretty catchy krautrockish piece.

All in all ''Mirage'' tends to be a pretty interesting neo-psych/psych rock album, and the female vocals of Josefin Öhrn work pretty well on this album as well. And this comes from someone who isn't usually convinced with many bands that boast female vocals. The album suits anyone who search for some reptitive yet catchy and somewhat mellow neo-psych. While saying this the album also has some pretty good distortion and feedback laden guitars, so go figure. Better to check it out yourself, and delve into this interesting Swedish psych rock collective.
