Suishou No Fune are a well-known Japanese experimental psychedelic noise rock band, and their best and most legendary album to date is ''Where The Spirits Are''. An album that they released back in 2005. The album packs some fine half-improvisational avant-garde psychedelic noise rock from start to finish, and in doing this it doesn't really differ much from other Suishou No Fune albums that much. Perhaps only due to the fact that it is heavier than some of their other releases.
The album starts off with a track titled ''Vale Of Spirits'' and it packs some improvisational psychedelic noise rock guitars, as well as a rather catchy drum and bass section. This makes for a track that is rather structured (for Suishou No Fune standards), and offers some relatively heavy and catchy psychedelic noise rock. The second track ''Your Tears Drop From The Sky'' offers a somewhat mellower outlook on things. The track boasts a repetitive drum and bass section and some melancholic improvisational guitars on top of this forward propelling motion. The vocal section of the track takes on a rather melancholic feel as well, and it can be said the track tends to have a post-rock vibe to it. The third track on the other hand offers a more avant-garde approach and tends to be filled with drones and rather obscure guitar sounds every now and then, while also having an eerie but heavy noisy guitar improvisation part to it. ''Black Phantom'' essentially has the same kind of slow evoloving structure to it, while it is perhaps even more hopeless in its melancholic ways. The last track ''A Rose Bloomed'' offers some more eerie and mezmerizing guitars along with some distinct haunting Suishou No Fune'like vocals. The guitars on this track are truly astonishing and enchanting in parts, making for an amazing track all in all.
''Where The Spirits Are'' remains as one of the best Suishou No Fune releases, as well as one of the best releases from the whole Japanese psych underground.
