uSSSy - Unsharp Mask

uSSSy is a pretty well-known Russian experimental psychedelic rock duo, who have released several great albums in the field of instrumental psychedelic rock with folk influences. Their latest album is titled ''Unsharp Mask'', and like previous albums such as ''Afghan Music House Party'', the album packs some amazing noisy psychedelia with an Eastern folk twist.

The album starts off with a track titled ''Tajik Rock'' and the nearly 8 minute track puts forth a massive and heavy piece of psychedelic noise rock with a feel of Tajikistan. The same can be said about the second track ''Kombucha'', which moves into even heavier noise rock and sludge terrain, while still keeping the distinct Eastern psychedelic vibe. The same can essentially be said about the next two tracks ''Ruhab'' and ''Bodun'' as well, with both of them at some points sounding almost like an organ when it is being used for playing noise rock. The fifth track ''Perkele'' moves again in the sludgy Easten psychedelic noise rock realm, while the following track ''Rave'' keeps some mellower folk infused parts as well. The last three tracks also tend to boast a mixture of mellower Eastern psych mixed with some rather catchy sludge parts.

All in all ''Unsharp Mask'' packs a really interesting mixture of noise-rock and sludge along with psychedelia with a distinct Eastern vibe to it, and the whole album is great for listening as a whole, as any particular songs are hard to bring out with all of the songs being almost equally great. Be sure to check this band out.
