Holy Palms is a fascinating one-man psychedelic rock band from Russia. What is interesting about Holy Palms is the mixture of psychedelic rock with Eastern and World Music influences, and this should not come as a surprise to anyone who is familiar with Pavel Eremeev's other project uSSSy.
The album from Holy Palms starts off with a massive track titled ''Fractal Blossoms'' and it packs some fine psychedelic rock with a clear-cut Eastern vibe. The percussion parts of this fine track work wonders as well, making for an astonishing journey to the mysterious East. The two parts of the ''Nath Family of Snake Charmers Tribute'' also follow on the same path, and pack some fine repetitive krautrockish psych with the same kind of Eastern vibe. The fourth track ''Night of The Rose'' works more like an interlude, wheareas the relatively short ''King Cobra Escape'' offers some rather heavy ethnopsychedelia through some rather tasty repetitive krautrock patterns. The third part of the ''Nath Family of Snake Charmers Tribute'' doesn't disappoint as well, although the first two parts stood out somewhat more. The album however finishes off with a lenghty 10 minute ''Nath Family Tribute - King Cobra Bride'' and this track borrows theme from ethnic sounds and ragarock as well. Putting forth a rather massive piece of Eastern influenced ethnopsychedelia.
All in all ''Tribute To Snake Charmers Music'' is a great album for anyone who like psychedelic rock with Eastern and ethnic influences. The album could be perhaps described as the more raw and unrefined Goat, with Holy Palms refusing to go that far from ethnic influences as the Swedish band does. And this of course can be a good thing. Be sure to check Holy Palms out.
