Gøggs - Gøggs

Coggs are a relatively new American no-nonsense garage punk/garage rock band and a one of the projects of Ty Segall. While they have released an EP before, then this self-titled album is also the debut album of this fine garage rock band. Of course this should not come as a surprise because after all it is a project of Ty Segall.

The album starts off with a track titled ''Falling In'' and the track packs some fine heavy garage punk riffage with some pretty cool vocals. The second track ''Shotgun Shooter'' follows the same path more or less, but also has a pretty clear Fu Manchu vibe to it. The third track ''She Got Harder'' can also be compared to the likes of Fu Manchu quite a bit, but also packs a pretty clear Ty Segall feel to it. The fourth track ''Smoke The Würm'' however puts forth some more clear cut garage punk repetition, with the following title track being one of the weirdest tracks on the album. The same can essentially be said about the following unorthodox ''Assassinate The Doctor''. The seventh track ''Needle Trade Off'' goes back on the garage rock that has become rather synonymous with Ty Segall, and packs some rather weird vocals as well. ''Future Nothing'' essentially follows the same path with the last track ''Final Notice'' packing some experimental and rather improvisational distorted guitar sounds to finish off the album.

All in all the debut album from Coggs is a pretty good one. It has its Fu Manchu'esque parts and its no-nonsense garage rock parts, as well as its unorthodox crazy parts. And I think this is a pretty good recipe for a good garage punk/garage rock album. Be sure to check it out.
