I normally wouldn't choose to write about a performance, especially one that's been on The Voice, but today I did hit the play button on the Aerosmith cover "Dream On" by US The Voice judges Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton. I'd been hearing people talk about for days, so I couldn't stay behind. The original version by Aerosmith is one that has always captured my imagination. Compared to all the other Aerosmith songs that I know, I've always had some problems recognizing Steven Tyler's singing voice on this one. It just sounds different to me. Of course, now that he is doing country music, I've had to adjust my vision of him altogether. Since hearing about the performance, I've been trying to imagine what it would be like with female voices on it, so I couldn't resist but to find out. There's something about The Voice that makes the professionals want to step up, I think. And this performance is one that proves, yet again, where experience can get you. Alicia Keys is probably the odd one out on this genre, but she stands her ground. Her voice sounds even more amazing in combination with Adam Levine later in the song. And while we're on topic, Adam Levine sounds incredible in his own solo of the song. I've seen Maroon 5 live in concert, while they were in Amsterdam, and was already impressed by his live vocals and especially his wide range, which I'm sure must have surprised a few when watching "Dream On".Miley Cyrus just reminds me of Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" during this performance. I swear, it's Christina singing when I close my eyes. She uses the same intonation and vocal tricks. All her craziness aside, Miley Cyrus has got such a powerful voice and is such a great singer.I can't really say too much about Blake. I mainly know him from Gwen Stefani's Instagram posts, so I don't have any of his own music to compare this performance with. Note to self: find out.... ' cos the performance did sound good. So, in case you've missed it, here's the performance:
