Metzengerstein - Alchemy To Our Days

Metzengerstein is a rather interesting Italian experimental/psychedelic rock/krautrock band from Tuscany. They have so far released two albums, with ''Alchemy To Our Days'' having been released back in 2015. The album packs a mixture of drone infused psychedelic rock, krautrock, neo-psychedelia and what can be also simply summed up as avant-garde.

The first track on the album is titled ''Buraq'' and the track packs some slowly evolving psychedelia with an almost ritualistic feel in the start of the song, while moving into some fine noisy improvisational guitars in the second half of the track. The track also has somewhat of an Eastern feel to it throughout. The second track on the album is titled ''Conversion to Wha Wha'' and this one is perhaps my personal favorite from Metzengerstein. The track packs some noisy distortion laden guitars as well as a rather good bass section. The track seems like a mixture of Fire!, Bardo Pond and Japanese underground psychedelia. All of this makes it a stand-out track for me. The third track ''Inlay Fern'' on the other hand starts with some drone only to move into a psyched out jam in the second half of the track, only to move back to drone after this crazy frenzied guitar improvisation. The fourth track ''Black Son From The Ashes'' on the other hand feels like an eerie ritualistic event with some echo laden guitars, only to be followed by the extremely mellow meditative ''Peak of Meditation'' with a variaty of bird sounds on offer as well. The last track ''God Discent'' however doesn't feel anything like meditating to the sound of chirping birds. This track instead starts off with some distortion laden guitars in the vein of many Japanese psychedelic noise rock masters, only to move into a more serene version of the same Japanese psych rock masters.

All in all this album is definitely worth checking out as it packs some rather interesting avant-garde drone infused psychedelia and kraut.
