Horseback are a pretty well-known psychedelic rock/doom/stoner rock band from North Carolina. They have released quite a few great albums through the years, but the album currently under view is their latest album ''Dead Ringers'', which they released earlier this year. While the music of Horseback tends to be a mixture of various different genres ranging from drone infused psychedelia to stoner rock and doom, then ''Dead Ringers'' is on the mellower side of Horseback.
The album starts off with a track titled ''Modern Pull'' and this track essentially packs some rather mellow drone infused psychedelic rock with quite distinct Horseback vocals. The second track ''Shape Of The One Thing'' starts off in the vein of bands like Earth, only to move into a somewhat different realm of drone infused mellow psych with some electronic music influences. The third track ''A Bolt From Blue'' starts off in a manner that somewhat reminds Swans, only to move into a rather catchy repetitive psych rock path. The fourth track ''The Cord Itself'' packs some drone and seems a bit like an interlude track, whereas ''Lion Killer'' again moves back to the drone infused psych ways of the first three tracks. The best track on this album is probably ''In Another Time, In and Out of Form'', which packs some heavier stoner distortion and some fine drumming, while the album is brought to an end by a lengthy and rather massive track ''Descended From The Crown''.
All in all ''Dead Ringers'' is a rather good album in the field of drone infused psychedelia and stoner. The album in parts feels like a mixture of Earth, a more mellower version of Swans and small bouts of electronic music influences. Which of course is quite interesting. The album is pretty solid and worth checking out.
