Robedoor - Primal Sphere

Robedoor are a relatively well-known American psychedelic rock/drone/experimental music band. They have released a lot of albums through the years, and the majority of them have been interesting in one way or another. ''Primal Sphere'' is no exception to this rule, and packs some fine noisy dark psychedelia in a drone and shoegaze coating.

The first track on the album is titled ''Stagnant Venom'' and the track is all about some slow and reptitive noisy psychedelia with a rather dark atmosphere. The track runs for almost 10 minutes and tends to be rather mindblowing with its repetitive drumming and slow noisy psych accompanied sometimes by some eerie vocals. The second track ''Blasted Orb'' starts off in a somewhat slower drone infused manner. The drumming slowly sets in and the track moves in between drone, darkened psych, dark ambient and electronic music. It however again has a very eerie and dark feel to it, while also being somewhat transcendent in its own murky way. Like transcending into a murky river via drowning slowly. The third track ''Flannel Shroud'' tends to be more similar to ''Stagnant Venom'' and packs some Ramleh'esque vocals and some fine all-round noisy darkened psych throughout. The last track ''Concrete Brother'' starts off with some rather concrete repetitive drumming and a murky noise filled atmosphere, evolving slowly to a more massive wall of repetitive noisy psychedelia.

All in all ''Primal Sphere'' is a really solid album in its own particular genre, and tends to be one of the best Robedoor releases in my book. All of the tracks are good in both their own particular way and in a somewhat similar way. Some truly fine slow darkened psych.
