Regarded as one of the best and most influential albums of the 90’s, Siamese Dream is a work of art. A masterpiece of sound magic that was both fiery and passionate for its time – and still remains so today.
Fuelled by inventiveness and a twisted darkness about it that sounds simply beautiful, the Smashing Pumpkins created something in Siamese Dream that was much closer to progressive alternative rock than grunge or punk, with influences from Black Sabbath pushing its way through.
Expanding the musical palette and tugging on your heart strings emotionally Siamese Dream was filled with possibilities, maturing nicely from where their first album Gish was left off. With arguably some of the greatest Smashing Pumpkins lyrics ever written, guitar solos and psychedelic pop melodies, it’s an album that’s come through as one of their best.
Formed by frontman Billy Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins shaped the punk and progressive rock revolution of the 90’s. Managing to be part of an alternative movement, without actually sounding quite like anything else, the band crossed many musical boundaries and heavily influenced a large portion of an entire generation.
By their second album Siamese Dream, the Smashing Pumpkins were considered legendary. Breaking into the musical mainstream with their grungy art-rock sound, dark romantic songs and moody rock symphonies, Billy Corgan was quick to be recognised as a lyrical genius (and believes today that he and Kurt Cobain from Nirvana were the greatest songwriters of the 90’s), mastering their music in all aspects.
