The Comet Is Coming - Channel The Spirits

The Comet Is Coming is a pretty fascinating British psychedelic rock/jazz fusion/experimental music band from London. Their latest album is titled ''Channel The Spirits'' and it packs an interesting mixture of krautrock, psychedelic rock, jazz fusion, free jazz and electronic music. The album was released earlier this year and it is definitely one of the more interesting releases within the aforementioned genres this year.

The first track ''The Prophecy'' works like a rather short space rock intro, whereas the second track ''Space Carnival'' moves into some more interesting terrain, and packs a fine krautrock bassline and some fine funky jazz fusion feel to it. The second part of the song is also rather heavy in the bass department and makes it a rather interesting track overall. The third track ''Journey Through The Asteroid Belt'' is even better, and packs another catchy and funky bassline along with some fine jazz atmosphere. All in all this track is a fine mixture of space rock infused psychedelia with a jazz fusion feel to it. Another interesting track on the album is ''New Age'' and this one packs some almost tribal drums in its rather acid jazz and space rock combo. Tracks like ''Slam Drunk in A Black Hole'' and ''Cosmic Dust'' wander around in a more electronic music realm, whereas ''Star Furnace'' packs another fine bassline along some jazzy psych impro. The title track ''Channel The Spirits'' is also a great one as it packs a rather heavy yet memorable bassline and propels forward a pretty massive jam with an acid psych feel to it, only to be followed by ''Lightyears''. A track that essenitally packs a rather far-out avant-garde improvisation.

All in all ''Channel The Spirits'' is definitely one of the more interesting releases in the whole field of psychedelia this year, and it does a great job in mixing different genres like krautrock, psych rock, space rock, electronic music, jazz and avant-garde. An album definitely worth checking out and great for channeling the spirits no doubt.
