Ancient Sky - T.R.I.P.S.

Ancient Sky are a great American psychedelic rock band from Brooklyn, New York. They have released quite a few great psych rock albums through the years, but one of their best albums is perhaps T.R.I.P.S. The album was released quite a few years ago back in 2012, and it packs some truly astounding psychedelic rock with clear-cut stoner, garage rock and even some noise rock influences. But above all it is a great noisy psychedelic rock album.

The first track on this fine album is titled ''Towards The Light'' and it packs a fine transcendental slow evolving psych rock track with mellow neo-psych style vocals that repeat the phrase ''Towards The Light'' to some fine enchanting echo filled guitars that evolve into some far out psych jam. The second track ''Wooden Ear'' is equally mesmerizing and captivating in its fine psychedelia, as is ''Snow In The Cemetery''. The fourth track ''Trips'' works largely as a noisy interlude, wheareas ''All Colours At Once'' is perhaps one of the best tracks on this album with its sometimes heavy, sometimes repetitive, sometimes far-out and sometimes meandering mellow psychedelia. Then again it is difficult to bring out a bad track on this fine album. ''Ray Bradbury'' offers some pretty awesome noisy psychedelic rock with some krautrockish basslines as well. The last three tracks are also very much worthwhile, with ''The Wind'' perhaps standing out among them with its heavy and somewhat doomy psych rock ending.

With most of the tracks being pretty good T.R.I.P.S is perhaps the best Ancient Sky album. The tracks tend to be mellow and meandering, while also packing sufficient amounts of stoner heavyness. This makes the album great for those who prefer the more mellow outlook of neo-psychedelia, while it is also great for those who like the more heavy and feedback filled heavy psych in the vein of Haikai No Ku or Blown Out. Whatever the case may be, this album is definitely worth listening to.
